Rajasthan Royals have appointed Steven Smith as the captain of the team.

On the IPL retention day, the franchise retained Smith.

It had to pay an amount of Rs 12.50 Crore to retain the Aussie captain.

This already gave indications that Smith would be leading the team and an official announcement was made on today (February 24).

He was also the captain of the side in IPL 2015.

Later, when the franchise was banned for a period of two years, he went onto lead Rising Pune Supergiant in one season.

He also led the team to the final of the tournament in IPL 2017, before RPS lost to Mumbai Indians by just one run in the final.
