The fifth match of the ongoing Trans-Tasman Tri-series at Eden Park in Auckland will be remembered fondly by Martin Guptill for a long time. Guptill brought up his second Twenty20 International ton.

A Trans-Tasman rivalry with an added T20I flavour has all the potential for a riveting contest. After winning the toss, Williamson opted to bat first. The packed crowd at Auckland were treated with fireworks from both ends.

Explosive openers in the form of Colin Munro and Martin Guptill smashed the Aussie bowlers all around the park.

Earlier, it was Munro, who eyed at his fourth hundred in T20Is but perished before achieving the feat.

Munro scored an explosive 33-ball 76, smashing six boundaries and an equal number of maximum, at a mind-boggling strike rate of 230.

The right-handed batter Guptill goes past former captain Brendon McCullum the tally of the most number of runs in T20Is.

Guptill now has 2,142 runs to his name in 73 matches at an average of 32 and the strike rate of 132.

The Kiwi opener Guptill smashed everything in sight in Auckland. He smashed six fours and nine massive sixes. He went after Kangaroos bowlers when Munro returned to the hut.

New Zealand was looking at a total of above 260 at one point in time. However, a mini-collapse at the death enabled them to post a daunting total of 243.

Looking at the knock of Guptill, Twitterati could not quite comprehend why he went unsold in this year’s IPL mega-auction.

Legends themselves such as Kevin Pietersen and Brendon McCullum applauded Martin Guptill for his effort.
