Peshawar Zalmi managed a sensational one runs victory beating the Quetta Gladiators in the 1st eliminator of the 3rd edition of the Pakistan Super League. It was Quetta Gladiators skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed who won the toss and opted to bowl.  A brilliant innings of 62 of 35 deliveries from Liam Dawson propelled Peshawar to a score of 157 runs.

Dawson’s innings was studded with six fours and four sixes while Mohammad Hafeez also chipped in with 14 balls 25. Rahat Ali was the pick of the Quetta Gladiators bowler bagging four wickets for 16 runs. It was a good show by the bowlers to restrict them down to 157 in their allotted 20 overs.

Gladiators began their chase pretty poorly losing both openers without many scores on the board. Mohammad Nawaz and Sarafaraz Ahmed scored 35 each to get them back on track. However, loss of wickets at regular intervals pushed them back. It was good bowling by the Zalmi bowlers to restrict them till the 19th over.

With 25 required of the final over, Dawson who was the man of the moment with the bat in hand was handed over the ball. Anwar Ali was at the other end. He began the over with a boundary of an outside edge. He smacked a huge six in the very next delivery but was unable to get sufficient contact in the next delivery.

15 was required of the last three deliveries, and the match was tilted in favour of Peshawar. However, Anwar turned the match on its head after smashing the next two deliveries for two big sixes. He attempted a six even in the final delivery but failed to contact properly. The catch was missed in the deep, but there was enough time for the fielder to effect the run-out.
