Shivnarine Chanderpaul Runs out His Son Tagenarine in a Domestic Encounter

Father and son playing together in a cricket match is one of the rarest instances in modern day cricket. Former Windies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is surely blessed to play the last phase of his professional career alongside his son. Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the son of Shivnarine, represents Guyana in domestic competitions, same as his father. During the ongoing Super 50 Tournament, it was perhaps for the first time that the father-son batting pair was probably telecasted worldwide.

The duo batted together during the domestic first-class competition in the Windies. Both scored half-centuries and put on a 38 runs stand. The father-son duo batted together in the Semifinal against Windward Island at Coolidge. Tagenarine and Chandrapaul Hemraj came out in the middle in a bid to chase down 287 for a victory.

They out on 13 runs in 3.5 overs before the senior Chanderpaul struck a straight drive of the bowling of Ryan John on his follow through. John in the process of saving four runs got his boot in the way and the ball went on to disturb the timbers at the other end. Tagenarine who was there at the non-striker’s end failed to make his crease when the bails were dislodged. Hence Tagenarine walked back to the pavilion after making a run a ball 12. His father played an indirect role in his dismissal.

The southpaw struck four boundaries in John’s next over which yielded 18 runs. It also put the tea pm track. Shivnarine scored a38 balls 34 which was studded with four fours and a couple of hits over the fence.

Meanwhile, Tagenarine featured in the U-19 2014 World Cup. He ended up scoring 293 runs in 6 innings which helped him finish as the 5th highest run-getter of the tournament. He made his first-class debut in 2012/13. However, he made his limited overs debut for Guyana this season only.
