Aiden Markram’s wretched run with the bat continued in the ongoing sixth One-day International, too. The stand-in skipper Markram had got the start but his promising knock came to an end courtesy of a stunning catch from Shreyas Iyer.

Playing just his second ODI series, Markram was handed the ODI captaincy in absence of injured Faf du Plessis.

However, his captaincy career did not begin in a manner he would have liked. Under his captaincy, South Africa lost three out of four ODIs. As a result, the Proteas lost the series with one match still remaining.

Markram also failed to deliver with the bat, scoring 9, 8 and 32, 22 and 32 in the first five games of the series.

Well, his poor form in the series continued on Friday (February 16) too as he was out for just 24.

After hitting three fours and a six already during his short stay, Markram went for another big shot.

However, the batter was caught brilliantly even before it could cross the 30-yard circle.

The Proteas opener tried to hit Shardul Thakur over the extra cover fielder. Thakur cleverly bowled a wider delivery which Markram failed to keep grounded. But there was still a lot to be done and Iyer did it brilliantly.
