Given the way KL Rahul’s international career has panned out in recent times, he would have loved to score big on Monday (March 12). The right-handed batsman was included in the playing eleven after a while for the game against Sri Lanka. He had also started brightly with the bat before disaster struck.

He had raced away to 18 before being dismissed in the unlikeliest of manner. The Karnataka star joined a select list of batsmen who were dismissed hit wicket in Twenty20 Internationals. He became the first Indian and ninth overall to set the dubious record. Rahul achieved the unwanted feat against Sri Lanka in the fourth T20I of the Nidahas Trophy in Colombo.

The Karnataka star went too deep in his crease while facing spinner Jeevan Mendis in the tenth over and dislodged the bails with his right foot.

India registers comfortable win:

Meanwhile, India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets to move to the top of the table. The Rohit Sharma-led side chased down 153 in 17.3 overs with nine deliveries to spare.

The match was reduced to 19-overs-a-side after a lengthy rain delay. India had started their chase of 153 in disastrous fashions,  losing openers Rohit Sharma (11) and Shikhar Dhawan (8) cheaply. Suresh Raina then hit two fours and as many sixes in his 15-ball 27 to set the tone.  However, Raina and KL Rahul’s departure threatened to derail the chase. But Manish Pandey (42*) and Dinesh Karthik (39*) stitched an unbeaten 68-run stand for the fifth wicket to take India home.

Earlier in the game, Shardul Thakur’s career-best figures of 4/27 helped India restrict the hosts to 152 for 9.
