Ahead of the Asia Cup 2018, India was expected to be a bit off the radar without their key may Virat Kohli. However, team India proved it wrong and reached the finals without losing a single game so far in the UAE. Meanwhile, Mahela Jayawardene also terms India as the favourites to win the Asia Cup 2018 even without Virat Kohli.

The former Sri Lankan batsman in his column to Times of India quoted the positive points of the Indian team. Further, he also gave his thoughts on the rest of the teams in the tournament as well.

India are the clear favourites in Asia Cup 2018 – Mahela Jayawardene

The Lankan quoted India has got the required ingredients in all sections of the game to lift the Asia Cup 2018. He also highlighted the fact that they are without the services of their key player, Virat Kohli in the team.

Further, Mahela quoted India needs to be wary with any opposition that takes the field in the final of the tourney. Mahela Jayawardene also stated he is impressed with Bangladesh and Afghanistan guts.

“As an all-round package, India just look a cut above the rest right now. Their batting is powerful and consistent, while their bowling attack has the necessary power to balance the potency of these kinds of pitches. Their potential opponents (Pakistan) in the final have, meanwhile, struggled with inconsistency throughout the tournament. That does not mean they will not provide a threat to India because they both have the potential to lift their game,” Mahela Jayawardene wrote.

Pakistan has been inconsistent –

The flamboyant batsman furtherly quoted Pakistan has lost their plot in the tournament. However, he is confident they will make a strong comeback.

”Pakistan’s batting has been inconsistent and, more surprisingly, their bowling has struggled. Having the option of just one frontline spinner has not helped them on these pitches and their fast bowlers have not been as penetrative as they would have liked,” he added.

However, it would be interesting to see how things would pan for the teams in the last couple of games of the Asia Cup 2018.

Team India is already in the finals and will watch the game of Pakistan vs Bangladesh to get their opponents in the final of the Asia Cup 2018.
