Jasprit Bumrah has been going through a rough phase in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer have picked three wickets in 11 matches, with an average of 116.33 and an economy of 8.51. However, amidst his poor form in the IPL, he has retained the NO.1 Spot in the Test cricket rankings.

The latest ICC rankings kept the team India speedster at No. 1 among Test bowlers, with Jasprit Bumrah holding 879 rating points. The IPL form is never considered in the longest format of the game, and keeping it aside, it takes a lot of discipline and workload. His red-ball record continues to keep him ahead of every bowler in the world.

Jasprit Bumrah retains No.1 place

Jasprit Bumrah last featured in the Test series against South Africa, where he picked up two wickets in the final Test match against the Proteas back in November last year. Since then, India has not played a single Test match, even though the premier fast bowler has kept his place intact.

Jasprit Bumrah has picked 31 wickets in 8 matches last year with an average of 22.16. This showcases his brilliance with the red ball and delivering consistently. In 52 Test matches, the speedster has picked 234 with an average below 20, with his exceptional variations and yorkers with the red ball have been one of the reason of him being successful in the subcontinent and in SENA countries as well.

Why is Jasprit Bumrah failing in the IPL?

The reason Jasprit Bumrah is failing in this IPL is that he has no support from the other bowlers on the MI team. The opponents have figured out to let go of Bumrah as he is their premium pacer and attack the other bowlers in the Mumbai Indians squad. This has been one of the reasons for the drastic fall in his form.

Another reason is the workload, as the IPL started two weeks right after the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, and the mental and physical break was absent for most of the Team India cricketers. Due to fatigue, they have failed to deliver, as Bumrah.
