Aakash Chopra believes Sri Lanka’s bowling attack is relatively poor ahead of their Asia Cup 2022 match against Afghanistan.
Dasun Shanaka’s and Mohammad Nabi’s teams will square off in a Group B match in Dubai on Saturday, August 27. Dushmantha Chameera, the Lions’ star speedster, will miss the game due to a left leg injury sustained during practice.

In a video posted to his YouTube page, Chopra discussed the Sri Lankan viewpoint. Regarding their bowling, he had the following to say:
“Good spin bowling is used by both teams. Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga, in my opinion, will cause Afghanistan problems. I think Sri Lanka’s bowling, particularly the fast bowling unit, is a little bit lacking. I am keeping an eye on Pathirana to see if she gets to play or not.”

At the T20 World Cup, Matheesha Pathirana might be Sri Lanka’s unexpected weapon. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowler has not yet played in an international match, but if he pitches the ball in the proper spots, his slinging movement can catch the opposing hitters off guard.
Kusal Mendis is an attacking player: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra explains why he thinks Sri Lanka should take a chance on Kusal Mendis in the batting department:
“Kusal Mendis, who can open and keep wickets, will be used in Sri Lanka’s batting. He plays offensively and is in fantastic shape. So I would like to take a chance on Kusal Mendis.”

Aakash Chopra had the following to say about other Sri Lankan batters:

“Pathum Nissanka is effective in the first inning but not in the second because he serves as an anchor and does not take big shots. Bhanuka Rajapaksa is blowing hot and chilly at the same time. Charith Asalanka is a good player in my opinion. They now have Dhananjaya de Silva, who is a good player.”
