Former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria acknowledged that his squad has a history of bringing back players who have fallen out of form, giving the impression that Virat Kohli might have a big Asia Cup.

Kohli has been having a terrible time with the bat lately and has not reached a century since 2019. Since the T20 World Cup 2021, he has only appeared in four T20 Internationals, amassing 81 runs with a strike rate of 128.57 and an average of 20.

Speaking to indiatoday.in, Danish Kaneria suggested that Pakistan might aid Kohli in regaining his form when the two teams square off on August 28 in their opening encounter of the Asia Cup.

“If you look at Pakistan’s history, we have consistently been able to turn around players who are out of form. That aspect is always with us. Playing Pakistan causes players to regain their form. Virat Kohli is aware that this is the match in which he must perform,” Kaneria told indiatoday.in.

“Virat Kohli needs to perform well in this important match since it will determine the course of his future. We feel obligated to support him if he is not doing well since we are his admirers,” Kaneria told indiatoday.in.

‘India is thinking of making a second national team’: Danish Kaneria

Danish Kaneria said that other players are raising their hands, which is why Kohli’s name is making news. Deepak Hooda became just the fourth man to play for India in men’s cricket to score a T20I century during the nation’s tour to Ireland.

Then, in the first T20I against England, he played at number three and once again dazzled everyone with his batting brilliance. He had to give way to Kohli for the rest of the series, though.

“Why is Virat’s name being mentioned? It is because a swarm of cricketers is on their way. India is considering forming a second national team and competing at the international level.

“Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, and KL Rahul have all returned from injury. There are so many players to choose from, and everyone is doing so well,” Danish Kaneria explained.

Virat Kohli scored 76 runs in six innings across formats during the England tour, which included the rescheduled fifth Test.
