In another major setback for the Indian cricket team, head coach Rahul Dravid is suffering from health problems just days before the Asia Cup 2022, with rumors suggesting that he may not go to Dubai with the team for the marquee event.

The former batting legend of India was appointed the team’s head coach in 2021, but his stint has been anything from smooth. He most recently received a break before India visited Zimbabwe, which was coached by VVS Laxman and helped India win the series 3-0.

The mega-event, which is scheduled to begin in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on August 27 this year, will be led by Rohit Sharma for team India. On September 11, 2022, the Asia Cup final will take place in Dubai.

On August 28, India and Pakistan will square off in a heavyweight match to start India’s tournament campaign. The Men in Blue hope to make up for their loss in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and establish their dominance in the planning of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia later this year.

Rahul Dravid’s omission will be a cause for concern for the team management:

The exclusion of the Indian head coach would worry the team management because he was very effective in his position of preserving order and a positive atmosphere in the locker room amidst fierce contention for spots on the national team.

However, the Indian team has performed admirably under the direction of interim coach VVS Laxman, who led a relatively inexperienced Indian team to an amazing clean sweep in the three-match ODI series against hosts Zimbabwe.

The current National Cricket Academy (NCA) director oversaw the national team during their tour of Ireland this year and will attempt to continue his winning streak with the group when they face Pakistan in the Asia Cup opener on August 28.

India’s Squad for Asia Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant(Wk), Deepak Hooda, Dinesh Karthik (Wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan.
