Suryakumar Yadav opened up on his incredible knock against Hong Kong and said that his role was to go in and take the tempo up of the innings.

KL Rahul and Virat Kohli were having trouble getting going when Yadav entered the game. Rahul scored just 36 runs from 38 deliveries before being out, and Kohli was having trouble scoring as well.

India was 94 for two in the 13th over when the 31-year-old entered the game, and the innings needed a late flourish to ensure that the squad could make a respectable total. With the former doing the majority of the scoring, Yadav and Kohli formed a fantastic partnership.

The right-handed batter scored 68 runs off just 26 balls, hitting six fours and just as many sixes throughout his innings. As Hong Kong failed to chase down the 192 runs scored by India, Yadav’s innings proved to be the difference-maker, securing Rohit Sharma and his team a position in the Super Fours round.

“I haven’t practised those strokes before.  But it all started with rubber ball cricket on hard cement, which I used to play with my friends when I was younger “Suryakumar stated on Star Sports.

“I felt it (the pitch) was sticky earlier, and later, when I was sitting and talking with Rohit Bhai and Rishabh, I stated that when I bat, I will try to push the tempo up a little bit. We were aiming for 170-175 runs, but the way things were going, I simply kept expressing myself. I am very pleased with how things turned out. On this wicket, I believe it is a good score.”

The Rohit Sharma-led side defeated Hong Kong by a score of 40 runs to advance to the Super-4 stage after defeating Pakistan in the first game. Suryakumar’s blitz assisted in pushing India’s total far beyond Hong Kong’s reach.
