Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has advised Babar Azam to help Pakistan prepare a future leader for the coming years. Danish has stated that once Babar hits a lean patch like the former Indian skipper, people in Pakistan Cricket might not be as supportive as people in Indian Cricket have been of Virat Kohli.

Babar Azam has been riding on one of the finest patches of his international career since the last year. Across formats, Babar Azam has been scoring runs in abundance and is currently the number one batter in the ICC ODI Rankings and the ICC T20I Rankings. In Tests, Babar sits at the 3rd spot just behind Joe Root and Marnus Labuschagne.

Danish Kaneria Speaks On Problems Babar Azam Might Face Once His Lean Patch Strikes

In an exclusive interview with Cricketaddictor, Danish Kaneria said, “Babar Azam won’t be the Pakistan captain forever. Once his bad patch comes, like Virat Kohli, he will be thrown out of the Pakistan team. Virat is receiving good backing from the team management despite his rough patch but Babar Azam won’t receive the same backing as Pakistan Cricket operates differently.”

“So who’s your future captain? You haven’t prepared one. Shan Masood is an ideal guy for Pakistan’s future captaincy as he’s well educated and on top of that, he has played a lot of County Cricket off late. He led Multan Sultans extremely well in the PSL but he was removed later,” Danish further stated.

“There’s a lot of talent in the Pakistan Cricketing circuit but the PCB isn’t letting these players come forward. Kamran Ghulam and Saud Shakeel are some of the names who are extremely talented. When Saud Shakeel could have played for Pakistan, you brought in Salman Ali Agha for God knows why,” Kaneria further added.

Pakistan Escape A Close Shave Whitewash Against The Netherlands

Babar Azam’s captaincy has already come under the radar with Pakistan’s dismal performance against the Netherlands away from home. Although Pakistan managed to whitewash the Dutch in the 3-match ODI series, none of the wins apart from the one in the 2nd ODI, seemed convincing. It should be borne in mind that Pakistan had travelled with their full-strength squad to the Netherlands.

The Dutch, on the other hand, weren’t playing with their best 11. Almost half a dozen Dutch players had been playing the Hundred in England during the Pakistan ODI series. Some other senior players were also involved in the domestic ODI series being played in England.

Pakistan managed a couple of narrow escapes in the first and the third ODI of the series despite playing against a weak Netherlands side and hence, Babar Azam’s leadership has been questioned by a lot of former Pakistan cricketers.
