Virat Kohli, the team’s batsman, has supported youngster pacer Arshdeep Singh despite a subpar performance against Pakistan in the Super Four match on September 11th.

Under pressure, anyone can make mistakes, as per Kohli, but he said that the young player must bounce back and accept them.

In the 18th over of Pakistan’s batting innings, when power hitter Asif Ali misplayed a lofted ball on the off side against leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep was right in the middle of the action. However, Arshdeep, who was standing at the backward point, lost his composure and dropped a catch. Asif had ended the game in the 19th over with a six and a four, but Arshdeep fought back well to bowl a stunning 20th over.

Speaking from the 23-year-perspective, old’s Kohli acknowledged that it is normal to feel bad for any cricketer, but he praised the team’s management and captain Rohit Sharma for fostering a positive team culture.

“Anyone can make mistakes under pressure,” Kohli stated at the post-match press conference.

“It was a big game with a tight situation. I recall playing my first Champions Trophy game against Pakistan and getting out after a terrible shot against Shahid Afridi. I could not sleep and be staring at the ceiling until 5 a.m. I believed I would never be able to play again. It is normal to feel down.”

“Tomorrow, we will reassemble as a group. When the team environment is great, you learn from these things. Management and Captain deserve praise for creating the atmosphere that says, “No worries, next time something like this happens, we want it to come our way.” Therefore, one must acknowledge their mistake, take appropriate action, and look forward to the next time they are under pressure,”Virat Kohli said.

India will be hoping to come back strongly in the competition against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
