India is due to start their Asia Cup defence on Sunday (28th August) against their arch-rivals Pakistan. A lot of players were seen having a chat ahead of the clash. KL Rahul who is coming after an injury would be under the spotlight as a lot of experts are saying that Virat Kohli should open the innings with Rohit Sharma. Virat has had some good net sessions in the lead-up of the high-voltage clash.

KL Rahul would be hoping that the Selectors are patient with him as before the Asia Cup, he played a 3 Match in ODI Series against Zimbabwe where he couldn’t make the most out of it. KL Rahul was named the skipper for that series in the 11th hour which somewhat shook Shikhar Dhawan’s morale.

The stylish batter would be somewhat relieved that he won’t face the thunderbolts of Shaheen Afridi this time as in ICC T20 World Cup 2021, he had ripped off India’s top order.

Former Selector on KL Rahul

Former Indian Selector Saba Karim made an interesting statement on KL Rahul. “If KL Rahul was fit, he would have played all the T20Is for India in the past six months. He has proven himself in the shortest format,” Saba said on India News.

Since he is coming back (to T20Is after six months), it is vital to give him security (regarding his place in the playing XI). India should play five specialist bowlers and Rahul should open the innings.

KL Rahul will need to showcase his credentials

We have seen how destructive & lethal KL Rahul can be on any given day. He is facing competition from Suryakumar Yadav who can be the surprise opener given his recent success against the Men in Maroon. The batter has a habit of making the power-play count as scoring 50-60 runs would dent the opposition’s confidence.

KL Rahul is a bit scratchy in the initial stages as he is someone who takes time before going berserk. Now Rohit Sharma has started changing gears quickly due to which the World Cricket is witnessing a 2.0 Version of him. There is no doubt that he can play long & effective innings, but the question is can he make a comeback after a long injury layoff?
