Rohit Sharma is set to overtake Suzie Bates and become the all-time highest run-getter in T20Is. Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is closing down to become the highest run-getter in T20 internationals (men’s and women’s combined), with only 12 runs behind New Zealand’s veteran Suzie Bates.
Rohit Sharma could surpass Suzie Bates as the highest T20I run-getter in the world
The star Indian opener is already the leading run-scorer in the history of men’s T20I with 3520 runs in 134 appearances for India. He just needs 12 more runs to surpass the former New Zealand women’s captain, who has scored 3531 runs in her T20I career so far.
Bates became the highest T20I run-getter in 2018, when she surpassed former England skipper Charlotte Edwards’ tally of 2605 runs while playing against South Africa in a tri-series.
The Men in Blue are currently unbeaten in the ongoing Asia Cup, winning both the Group matches against Pakistan and Hong Kong. They will now begin their Super-4 stage with the game against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday.
It will be a perfect opportunity for the Indian skipper in the game against Pakistan on Sunday to clinch this big milestone as a batter and become the leading run-scorer in the T20I format.
Rohit Sharma has numerous T20I records at a glance
The 35-year-old has played 134 T20Is for India which is currently the most by any player in the World. Since his debut in 2007, he has scored 3520 runs at an average of 32 and strikes at 139.84. In addition, he also leads the list of T20i centuries with four centuries with the highest score of 118 against Sri Lanka at Holkar Stadium, Indore in 2017.
He also holds the record for the second highest number sixes (165) in the shortest format, including the joint highest number of fifty-plus scores (31) in T20Is alongside his teammate, Virat Kohli.
With India taking on Pakistan in their first Super-4 fixture of the Asia Cup on Sunday, Rohit has a chance to clinch another milestone, in fact, the biggest of all in T20 Internationals.
