As the former captain of India returns to competitive cricket after a nice break of more than a month, all eyes will be on Virat Kohli. After India toured England, where the legendary batsman fell cheaply every time he came out to bat, Kohli took a break from playing.
Shane Watson, a veteran of Australia, expressed his thoughts on the matter by saying that he anticipates Kohli having a strong performance and that the former captain of India would have benefited from the lengthy break.
The forthcoming Asia Cup 2022, which begins on August 27 in the United Arab Emirates, will see Virat Kohli make his comeback. One day later, in Dubai, the Men in Blue will begin their assault against Babar Azam’s Pakistan. After a vacation of more than a month, Kohli is returning to competitive cricket and will attempt to generate some runs after India’s tour of England failed to do so.
The legendary batsman Kohli failed to record a single half-century in the six innings he played across all forms in England, with his highest score of the tour coming in the rescheduled Test at Edgbaston with a score of 20.
‘The Indian cricketers in particular play so much cricket’: Shane Watson
Shane Watson, an Australian veteran, expressed his thoughts on the matter, believing that the long break would have benefited the former Indian leader. “Having time off for him would surely help him rejuvenate mentally, physically, and just get away from the game of cricket”, Shane Watson remarked on the ICC Review Show.
“So when you can have a break, and because Indian cricketers in particular play so much cricket, for Virat to be willing to have some time off, especially a month, that is just going to regenerate everything he needs to take stock of what happened, freshen up mentally and physically,” Shane Watson explained.
Watson is also optimistic about Kohli bouncing back to form. “He’s too good not to be able to find his groove. It’ll only take him a couple of balls, get into the battle again, and away he goes,” he said.
India will open its Asia Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday.
