Ravi Shastri, a former India coach, claimed that if Virat Kohli manages to knock a fifty in the opening game of the 2022 Asia Cup, talk about his form will be put to rest and he will only need one innings to regain his form.

On August 28, when India plays their greatest rival Pakistan in the opening match of the Asia Cup T20 tournament, Kohli will resume playing competitive cricket after a five-week long break. It should be noted that Kohli last played during the England tour, following which he has not played since.

Kohli took a break from cricket following that tour, skipping India’s trips to the West Indies and Zimbabwe. Many have questioned the former India captain’s place in the T20I format due to his recent performance in international cricket.

“I have not spoken to Virat Kohli in a while, but the ‘big boys’ always wake up on time. Kohli’s rest before the Asia Cup was beneficial since it allowed him to reflect. If he scores a fifty against Pakistan, everyone’s mouths will be shut” Ravi Shastri said.

“One inning may make or break a game. He only needs one inning to recover because his hunger remains unabated. What has occurred in the past is history. Remember that public memory is limited “ Ravi Shastri said in a presser arranged by Star Sports ahead of the Asia Cup.

‘Virat Kohli is the fittest player in the Indian team’: Ravi Shastri

Kohli previously stated that having time with his family and traveling helped him relax following stressful seasons in professional sports. In the current calendar year, the former skipper has taken pauses between series, having played only four T20s out of India’s 21 thus far.

“Virat Kohli is the fittest player in the Indian team, and no one can match his work ethic or the manner he trained. He is a robot. Without a doubt, he will return in peak condition. His hunger and passion are astounding,” Ravi Shastri further said.

With a strong T20I record against Pakistan, Kohli has a great chance to regain his form in India’s opening encounter of the Asia Cup against their bitter rivals. He has 311 runs at an average of 77.75 in his seven games versus Pakistan. He has blasted out 35 fours and five sixes, going undefeated three times.
