Former India selector Saba Karim believes that Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma may open the inning for India In the Asia Cup match against Pakistan on August 28.
He stated that KL Rahul is coming to the Indian cricket team after a long absence. As a result, he will require some time to recover from his dismal performances in Zimbabwe (1 and 30 runs in two matches).
In an interview with India News, Karim stated:
“[Virat Kohli begins the game with Rohit Sharma] It is a viable possibility. If this occurs, it indicates that India is also attempting to keep Dinesh Karthik in the starting lineup.”
“KL Rahul returned to international cricket, although he struggled in the one-day internationals against Zimbabwe. It is taking him a while to get back into the rhythm of play, therefore Kohli and Rohit may end up opening against Pakistan.”
I believe we will see the old Virat Kohli back: Saba Karim
In the lead-up to the Asia Cup, the former India player said it was encouraging to see Virat Kohli spending time in the nets. The former Indian captain, according to him, can have a purple patch if he develops clarity of thought.
“Virat Kohli is the star of the show because he has always played exceptionally well. He has excelled in important games, contests with Pakistan, ICC competitions, and against formidable opposition. Fans anticipate Kohli to perform in the same manner as he has in the past for this cause.”
“According to reports, he is spending valuable time in the nets. I believe we will see old Virat Kohli again if he performs with the same clarity on the field. If that happens, no team, even Pakistan, will be able to counter India.”
On August 28 at the Dubai International Stadium, the Indian team will begin their Asia Cup campaign against Pakistan (Sunday).
