Virat Kohli’s emphatic form in the Asia Cup took 2022 took a massive hit during India’s clash against Sri Lanka in the Super 4 s fixture at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The ex-Indian captain was dismissed for a duck after a 4-ball stay at the crease.

By virtue of this feat, Kohli set a new career-low being dismissed for a duck in the Asia Cup for the first time ever across both T20I and ODI formats. Coming into the game, the ex-India skipper was the side’s top-scorer in the ongoing edition.

After Maheesh Theekshana dismissed KL Rahul in the second over of the game for a knock of 6 runs, all hopes were pinned on Kohli to put India’s innings back on track. However, after three dot balls, he tried to smack pacer Dilshan Madushanka for a big shot on the mid-on boundary but ended up mistiming his shot and saw his stumps uprooted.

Kohli, on the contrary, holds an incredible record in the competition in both formats. Having played the 50-over format thrice in his career (2010,2012, and 2014), he has scored a total of 613 runs in 11 matches with three centuries to his name.

In the inaugural T20I edition of the tournament, Kohli played a key role in India’s title win with 153 runs in five matches at an average of 76.60. Coming into today’s clash vs Sri Lanka, Kohli had 154 runs to his name.

In his impressive record at the continental showpiece event for more than a decade, Kohli had never been dismissed for a duck. Talking about the match, India put up a solid recovery with skipper Rohit Sharma leading the way with a splendid knock of 42-ball 70. Suryakumar Yadav has given him solid support from the other end and set up India for a big finish.
