Former Indian bowler Ashes Nehra said Suryakumar Yadav will be a linchpin for Indian batting lineup regardless of the position he bats in.

Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 68 off just 26 deliveries against Hong Kong which helped the team to get a massive total of 193 despite a slow start. The Mumbai-born batter smashed four sixes in the final over to showcase his match-finishing skills.

Suryakumar has batted as a floater in this Indian batting order, be it opening the innings or bat at No.3 or No.4. His availability to bat at any position in the team is a bonus for the team management.

The 31-year-old is going through a purple patch and the Indian team will bank on his form to win the ongoing Asia Cup 2022.

“No matter whichever position you play Suryakumar Yadav, he will remain crucial for India. SKY has the ability to bat through any situation, having shown the same for Mumbai Indians as well as for India,” Nehra said on the show ICC Review.

“SKY plays with the field and hits it all around the park. He has performed incredibly well and will definitely be in the XI, let alone in the 15,” he added.

Why Suryakumar Yadav is crucial for India?

The middle-order batter provides much-needed flexibility in the batting order and can be used according to the situation of the game.

In a batting order that has the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, Suryakumar still looks the best considering his current form.

His ability to score in all directions of the ground makes it really difficult for any opponent to execute a particular strategy on the field.

The Mumbai Indians star is striking at a rate of more than 190 at an average of 42.83 in T20Is in 2022.

In the T20I series against England, Suryakumar scored a breathtaking 117 off just 55 deliveries and almost got the team while chasing a mammoth 216 in Nottingham.
