While the Indian squad announcement for the Asia Cup 2023 during the press conference had seriousness in it, captain Rohit Sharma made sure that things remain light and he entertains many with his hilarious reply.

One of the best moments came when Rohit Sharma was asked about having full strength squad for the first time as a leader. Replying to this he was at his best and said that he’ll be happy when everyone will be available on the team sheet on the match day.

“I’ll be happy on the day of the game, with that team sheet when everyone’s available. I’ll be happy then.” Rohit Sharma quipped.

Ever since Rohit Sharma took over the full-time captaincy of the Indian team, he has had to go through some tough times. The Indian captain didn’t have the privilege of the having team’s best bowler Jasprit Bumrah for the majority of the team. If this was not enough some other players too missed a lot of games due to injuries.

But fortunately for the first time, Rohit Sharma will be leading a full-strength team in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer also have returned to the team whereas Jasprit Bumrah along with Prasidh Krishna too have returned and this makes India look like a completely different side.

Further shedding light on the injuries of players, Rohit Sharma said that it is something that is part and parcel of the game and every team is facing setbacks because of that. He said that they tried their best to bring other guys and fill in the role. He stated:

“Injuries are a part and parcel [of the game]. Injuries are not just happening in India, they are happening everywhere around the world. If you look at England, Australia, injuries are happening. But, what we try and do is do the best that we can – get in some of the other boys to come in and fit into the job.”

Asia Cup 2023: Hopefully they stay on for a longer period of time – Rohit Sharma On players returning from injuries

Rohit Sharma added that they are hopeful that players like Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Prasidh Krishan and Jasprit Bumrah can stay fit for a longer period of time.

He explained: “When you have injuries, you can’t really do too much. You can hope for the best that the guys who are injured can come back quicker. Now that they are back, hopefully, they stay on for a longer period of time. Again, I don’t want to talk too much about it. We want to look at the positive side of it now and go ahead with that.”

The Indian team will be heading to NCA in Bengaluru for the camp. The training will start on August 24th before flying to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup. They will open their campaign on 2nd September against Pakistan in Kandy.
