Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have expressed their disappointment with the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after they supported the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in moving the Asia Cup 2023 out of Pakistan and expressing their interest in hosting the tournament.
As a result of that Pakistan have rejected Sri Lanka’s proposal to play the ODI series in the Island nation as per the PTI reports. The two teams are slated to play the Test series in July as a part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle 2023-25. It is learned that SLC had suggested playing ODIs as well.

Pakistan had said that they would think about the proposal but now have denied it due to the Asia Cup saga. It is learned that PCB was confident that SLC would be on the same page with them due to the relationship they share but they supported BCCI, which disappointed them.
A source close to PCB revealed that it’s a clear indication that they are unhappy with Sri Lanka and Chairman Najam Sethi in particular is very disappointed as he had expected them to play at least 4-5 games in Pakistan. He said:
“An example of the increasingly strained relations between the two boards emerged after the PCB turned down a proposal by the Lankans to play a few One-Day International matches next month in Sri Lanka. It is a clear indication that the PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan board stepping in to offer to host the Asia Cup in September when it is Pakistan’s turn to host the regional event at home.”
“Sethi expected Sri Lanka with whom Pakistan has long had friendly relations, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to convince the BCCI and other Asian Cricket Council board members to go with the proposal put by Sethi and at least play three to four games in Pakistan of the Asia Cup before moving the tournament elsewhere.”

Recently reports emerged that a meeting between BCCI, SLC, and BCB took place after the IPL Final and the ACC rejected Pakistan’s revised hybrid model. The reports suggested that the governing body wants the tournament to be hosted in Asia Cup.
PCB sources have responded to that reports and said that Najam Sethi is disappointed with what happened when the boards went to India after IPL Final. He said:
“He is disappointed at the way things have panned out in recent days especially when some of these board heads went to India for the IPL final and met with the BCCI secretary Jay Shah.”
The reports suggested that PCB is now likely to take an uncompromising stand and is preparing strong decisions regarding the Asia Cup as well as the World Cup 2023.
