Pakistan and Sri Lanka will face off in the Asia Cup 2022 final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, September 11. India and Afghanistan were eliminated from the tournament after the Super 4 games.

Pre-tournament favourites India won two matches in the group stage and failed to replicate the same performance in the Super 4. Rohit Sharma’s team managed to win only one game out of three matches. On the other hand, Afghanistan also won two games in the group stage and lost all three matches in the Super 4.

Sanjay Manjrekar Calls To Negate The Importance Of Toss

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has criticized the unfair importance of the toss in the 2022 Asia Cup. He said that due to the coin toss, the teams unfortunately missed the finals of the tournament. India lost three tosses in Super 4 and Afghanistan lost two. Both of them were eliminated from the finals.

Manjrekar stated that the coin flip does not decide the outcome of the game and T20 cricket should look at fair methods to decide the winners of the game.

“Fact that cannot be ignored in this Asia cup – Teams that lost most tosses in super 4s are not in the finals. India lost all 3. Afghanistan 2. Hence spin of the coin cannot decide who gets a very significant advantage. T20 Cricket needs to explore a fairer method,” tweeted Manjrekar.

“I think we do not need to overreact to things. It is a balanced environment, whether we win or we lose. We keep going on the same path, and the journey continues,” he added.

The chasing teams have done relatively well in the UAE, whether in Dubai or Sharjah. The tracks have become easier for batting in the second innings, and the tosses have played a crucial role in the Asia Cup 2022 results this season.
