With India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a knee injury, the Indian cricketing fraternity called his absence a big blow to the Indian team. However, the manner in which Axar Patel has stepped up to the occasion and delivered in Jadeja’s absence has been a revelation.

While the batting skills can be debated between Jadeja and Axar, in terms of bowling ability the latter seems to be outperforming the latter. Jadeja however, has been an ever-present figure in the Indian team across all formats of the game over the years, primarily due to his batting.

Saba Karim lauds Axar Patel’s skillset and maturity

Axar has now given a testament to his prowess, showing the team management that he can deliver as Jadeja’s replacement and win matches on the basis of his bowling. The left-hander has been so impressive in the past couple of games and former selector Saba Karim opined he has already cemented his place in the Indian team.

Speaking to India News Saba Karim said, “Axar Patel has shown that his place is confirmed. He has the skills and maturity and bowled with a clever mindset. His contribution in consecutive games is very big for the Indian team,”

“Axar is coming into the team in place of Ravindra Jadeja and performing for the side, which shows his strong mindset. His batting is also improving and I think he is the best replacement for Jadeja,” Karim concluded.

Saba Karim heaps praise on Rohit Sharma for his captaincy

Karim also spoke about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, particularly the decision to make Axar bowl in the powerplays.

“Rohit Sharma’s captaincy was very good. It was a bold move to bowl Axar Patel in the powerplay and it completely changed the game, which included a run-out from Virat Kohli and the wicket of Glenn Maxwell on the very first ball he faced.

“Axar also bowled the fourth over, where he took the wicket of Tim David. He got rid of two big power-hitters from Australia.”
