Indian Cricket Team had a below-par performance in the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2022. The team got defeated by Pakistan and Sri Lanka which led to their exit from the tournament. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal weren’t that effective and weren’t providing crucial breakthroughs. The management would be bothered as their star bowlers are getting whacked around the park.
The likes of Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi who were quite new to the setup bowled pretty well. Arshdeep was targeted by the fans for his dropped catch, but apart from that, the 23-year-old fast bowler has shown a lot of promise. It would be interesting to see whether he gets a chance at the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 as the bowler has shown immense control.
Robin Uthappa on Arshdeep Singh & Deepak Chahar
Robin Uthappa while interacting with ESPNCricinfo was seen talking about the Indian bowling attack and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. “He will bowl three in the top six and then one in the middle or towards the death. But I feel so that we will have Harshal and Bumrah predominantly bowling in the death. And he will play maybe to the tail end or just before the death overs he will bowl that one over or in case you want a wicket in the middle overs.
“So, I think that’s how they’re going to use him. I think they will go with five fast bowlers anyways and I think Arshdeep and Deepak Chahar will be the other two outside of Bumrah, Bhuvi and Harshal. And Hardik plays as the sixth fast bowler,” said Uthappa.
Indian Pacers Struggling to find Rhythm
Head Coach Rahul Dravid and Captain Rohit Sharma would be hoping that Jasprit Bumrah provides the missing spark in the bowling lineup. There is no doubt that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a good swing bowler and can rattle any batting lineup on a given day, but the batters are playing him out in the initial stages and then going berserk.
There is still uncertainty over Shami as Selectors have been tight-lipped over it. It would be interesting to see if the senior bowler directly gets drafted into the squad or will have to warm the benches.
The Skipper Rohit Sharma would be worried after seeing the performance of Hardik Pandya as he would have discarded the idea of playing Hardik as 5th bowler. Indian Bowling lineup needs to make sure that they are tightening the screws at the back end of the innings; because that phase is hurting team India.
