Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli emerged as heroes as India eclipsed Australia in the decisive third and final T20I of the series which was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on September 25, 2022.

The Indian team had to chase a 188 runs target to win and got to the target with one ball to spare and six wickets in hand. The Men in Blue started off on a poor note as KL Rahul got out to Daniel Sams for 1 and then Rohit Sharma was caught by Sams off Pat Cummins for 17 runs.

Axar Patel scripts new record

Speaking after receiving the Player of the Series award, left-arm spinner Axar Patel said, “When you do well and the team wins the series, it feels great. I try to back myself with the line and lengths I bowl and even if the batter takes me on I back myself.”

Axar Patel also scripted a new record for the most number of scalps by any bowler in a bilateral series played between India and Australia.

Match Highlights

Suryakumar hammered 69 in 36 balls with 5 fours and as many sixes, while Kohli batted till the last over, scoring 63 runs in 48 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes, as India won the match in the last over with 6 wickets in hand. Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten on 25 in 16 balls.

Australia had made 186/7 with Cameron Green making 52 in 21 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes to his name and Tim David who made 54 in 27 balls with 4 sixes and 2 fours.

India will now play three T20Is and three ODIs against South Africa before the T20 World Cup in 2022.
