Rohit Sharma became the batter with the most sixes in T20Is. The 34-year-old accomplished the milestone in India’s second T20I against Australia at VCA Stadium in Nagpur.
The 34-year-old went past New Zealand’s Martin Guptill to become the leading six-hitter in the shortest format of international cricket. Prior to the second T20I, the Nagpur-born Rohit was level with Guptill on 172 sixes.
Rohit Sharma propels India towards win
After India was asked to chase down 91 in eight overs to win the match, Rohit got beaten off a beautiful delivery from Josh Hazlewood.
However, Rohit took on the pacer and smashed the ball over the ropes with the utmost ease. Rohit cleared his front leg and deposited the leather in the stands. In the next ball of the first over, Sharma pulled Hazlewood for a colossal six on the leg-side.
Hazlewood had a torrid time in the first over as he conceded 20 runs. After Rohit smashed him for two back-to-back sixes, KL Rahul whipped the ball on the leg side for a massive six.
Rohit Sharma also leads the charts for most runs in T20Is
Rohit scored only 11 runs in the first T20I at PCA Stadium in Mohali before Hazlewood accounted for his wicket in the third over of Australia’s run-chase.
Rohit also happens to be the leading run-scorer in T20Is after he surpassed Martin Guptill’s tally earlier this year. The veteran is also India’s second-most successful skipper after the legendary MS Dhoni, who retired from international cricket back in August 2020.
Rohit is set to lead India in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, to be played later this year in October-November.
