When hosts India welcome the world’s Current Champions Australia in the first game of the series on Tuesday, Indian captain Rohit Sharma can easily break a world record. With a three-match T20I series against the Aaron Finch-led team, Team India under Rohit will begin its T20 World Cup preparations.
At Mohali, Rohit, who has scored the most runs in the short format’s history, will have another opportunity to make history. In 136 games for the 2007 world winners, the Indian captain has scored 3,620 runs.
The experienced Indian opener, Hitman for his aggressive striking style, scored 323 fours and 171 sixes in his historic T20I career. On the list of players with the most sixes in the shortest format, the 35-year-old is ranked second. Martin Guptill of New Zealand has hit the most sixes in T20 international cricket.
In 121 T20I games, the Kiwi opener has smacked 172 sixes. So, for Rohit to match Guptill’s achievement in the first T20I against Australia, he only needs to knock one-six. By hitting two sixes, Rohit can change the course of T20I cricket history and become the player with the most sixes ever.
Rohit Sharma Has had a solid 2022 with the bat:
The Indian captain has had a solid 2022 at the batting. In 17 games, he has scored 423 runs at an average of 26.43. His bat has produced two half-centuries, with the highest score being 72. His strike rate is 143.38. This year, he has hit a total of 21 sixes.
All eyes are on the three ODIs and three T20Is against Australia that begin on October 28 as well as the home series against South Africa. These will be excellent match preparation for the Men in Blue as they prepare for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, which will take place this year from October 16 to November 13.
India squad for the Australia series: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav.
