Australia will take on India in the first ODI in Mumbai on March 17. Australia lost the Test series against India. However, they already qualified for the WTC final before the Test series started. The Aussies will face India in the final from June 7-11.

Steve Smith will lead the side in the absence of Pat Cummins who has stayed back home after the demise of his mother. The visitors have a few injury concerns to some of their key players. IND vs AUS: Australia’s Playing XI For India, 1st ODI, 2023

David Warner

The Australian opener will need a medical clearance to play the first ODI against India. Warner missed the last two Test matches due to an elbow injury and has reportedly recovered from it. The southpaw has already scored over 500 runs in 13 ODIs this year so far.

Travis Head

Head batted brilliantly in the Test series against India and will open the batting in the first ODI. He has played nine ODIs this year so far scoring over 500 runs at an average of 68.75.

Steve Smith

Smith will bat at number three for Australia. He is one short of equalling Ricky Ponting’s tally of 14 international tons against India. He has scored 8 centuries in Test cricket and five in ODI cricket. The Australian skipper needs 83 more runs to complete 5000 ODI runs.

Cameron Green

Cameron Green scored his maiden Test ton against India in the fourth Test. He can slot in at number four. Green can also open the batting in case Warner is not fit to play the first ODI.

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell is also just fresh from a freak injury and his participation in the first ODI against India is still doubtful. He played his last ODI against the Kiwis in September 2022. If he plays this will be the first ODI for the Aussie all-rounder this year.

Marcus Stoinis

Marcus Stoinis will slot in at six. He is another power-hitter all-rounder in the XI. The all-rounder has played 11 ODIs this year scoring 156 runs and picked up four wickets. He is very well aware of the conditions on offer and can adjust accordingly.

Alex Carey (WK)

Carey, the wicketkeeper will slot in at seven. He played all four Test matches against India and scored some quick runs. He plays the spinners very well and will be fed with a lot of spin throughout the series.

Ashton Agar

Agar did not play in any of the four Test matches against India but can feature in the ODIs. He is a good-quality left-arm spinner and also someone who can score important runs with the bat lower down the order. He played his last ODI in 2022.

Mitchell Starc

Starc will lead the pace attack in the absence of Pat Cummins. Starc ended with just two wickets in the series and is the most important bowler for the Aussies in the series. The pacer ended with 16 wickets from 8 matches in 2022 and will be playing his first ODI this year.

Sean Abbot

Sean Abbot will pair up with Starc as the second specialist spinner in the XI. He is also a handy lower-order batter and can contribute with handy runs. Abbot has played just 8 ODIs and picked up nine wickets.

Adam Zampa

Adam Zampa will conclude the playing XI for Australia. He has dismissed Rohit Sharma four times and Virat Kohli five times in ODI cricket. This will be Zampa’s first ODI in 2023 after having picked 30 wickets in 2022.
