Australian skipper Pat Cummins is optimistic about the team’s chances when they play Sri Lanka in a few months and India next year after winning the Test series in Pakistan on Friday.
Cummins followed Richie Benaud and Mark Taylor seems like the only Australian captains to win a series in Pakistan, as his side won the third Test in Lahore by 115 runs for a 1-0 triumph.
When Tim Paine stood down after a sexting scandal shortly before an Ashes series at home in November, the 28-year-old fast bowler was handed the reins of the Test side.
Cummins showed no worries in leading Australia to a 4-0 victory over arch-rivals England, and he is now undefeated in his eight Tests as captain.
Cummins told reporters, “It’s a source of enormous satisfaction for me.” “Everyone is completely overjoyed.” Winning the Ashes series was huge, but winning outside of Australia is rare.”
For the first time in 24 years, Cummins came in Pakistan with a side that was touring the country.
Pat Cummins is looking forward to upcoming tours in Sri Lanka and India:
For the first time since 2016, Australia will play two Tests in Sri Lanka in June and July, and will then travel to South Asia for a tour to India, which has won 15 straight series at home.
“We won the Ashes, but we haven’t played many Tests outside of Australia,” Cummins added.
“The amount of confidence we’ll gain by winning over here, not just as a team, but as individuals… their game can withstand Asian circumstances,” said one player. It’s huge for Sri Lanka later this year and India the next year. So, yeah, that’s incredible.”
Pakistan would have fancied their chances of winning the series after the first two Tests finished in a tie, but Australia has demonstrated why they are the No. 1 Test team in the world right now – at least in terms of rankings. Pakistan were bowled out for 235 in the fourth session of the third Test match’s concluding day. Australia already leads the series 1-0, their first series victory in Asia since 2011.
