PAK vs AUS: Fear Of Defeat Should Be Taken Out - Kamran Akmal's Advice To Babar Azam And Co

Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal reckoned that the current Pakistani team is afraid of defeat and needs to let go of that attitude if it wants to succeed against the high-flying Australian team.

The Aussies won the third Test in Lahore to win the Test series 1-0. They went on to win the first ODI in a comprehensive fashion on Tuesday, further denting the confidence of the home team.

“The fear of defeat should be taken out of the mind while competing against Australia, our cricket can not improve unless you think about the team first. To make a place in fans’ hearts, you have to win matches with your performance.“

“I wish the Pakistan team all the best and hope we win the series. Mindset is essential in cricket. The kind of mindset we showed by preparing such pitches caused us [to lose] the Test series,” Akmal said.

Kamran Akmal holds the domestic system to blame

Akmal went on to add that the domestic structure is weak and there have been no good cricketers emerging from the setup in the past few years. If the current batch of cricketers moves on, there is no one to replace them, as per Akmal.

“In PSL, the one who hits two or three sixes or bowls fast is selected in the team. Our priority is only PSL, there is no focus on grassroots cricket. If the existing system remains, Pakistan cricket will be completely abolished.“

“No quality player has emerged from this system for three years, and there are no backups of Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, and other players. When Imran Khan will not be there, the people supporting the current domestic structure will walk around hiding their faces,” he added.
