PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja has been targeted time and again for producing low-quality pitches in the ongoing Test series between Pakistan and Australia. There was a lot of hype regarding the Test series with the Aussies touring the country for the first time in 24 years but the way the pitches have played out so far has made former cricketers unhappy.
Former Australian skipper Mark Taylor has also voiced his concern regarding the same in a recent interaction.
The Rawalpindi pitch was rated below-average by the ICC after the first Test ended in a draw. The second Test in Karachi is ongoing at the moment between both teams and a draw looks like the expected result.
So far the batsmen from both teams have dominated the Test series with Australian bowlers picking up just four wickets in the first Test. They managed to bowl out Pakistan in the second for just 148 and are now defending a big total in Karachi.
Former Australian skipper Mark Taylor has slammed the PCB saying the condition of the pitches is a reflection of where Pakistan cricket is at the moment.
Shows Where Pakistan Cricket Is At: Mark Taylor Slams PCB Chief Ramiz Raja
“Unfortunately, I think it shows where Pakistan cricket is at. They have got some very good cricketers at the moment, and I would love to see their establishment be a little more adventurous with what they’re telling them,” Taylor was quoted as saying Nine’s Sports.
The fact that the board did not opt to make pace-friendly wickets despite their own team having a good set of fast bowlers was what baffled the cricket fraternity.
“Firstly, the two pitches we’ve had, at Rawalpindi and at Karachi, have been roads. They are hard, you can see there’s not much grass on them. Pakistan bowling is very good, they’ve got some very good quicks these days. It looks to me like they haven’t backed their side in general,” Taylor further said.
Interestingly Ramiz Raja issued a statement after the first Test ended in a draw saying that they did not want to make pitches that were conducive for the opposition pacers. Mark Taylor in response said that leaving a bit of grass on the wicket would have only helped in having a fair contest between both teams.
