SL vs AUS: Glenn Maxwell Reacts To Cheers From Sri Lankan Fans At The End Of The ODI Series

Australia has received a lot of fan support so far on its tour of Sri Lanka. As the ODI series between the two sides came to a close, Glenn Maxwell expressed his surprise at the amount of support the tourists had received thus far.

It is unusual to see the Australian cricket team receiving support from local fans in Asia.

Glenn Maxwell was quite surprised to see Australian flags and thank you messages for the tourists as the ODI series between Australia and Sri Lanka came to an end on Friday.
When the island nation was suffering from an extraordinary economic upheaval, Australia arrived there for the bilateral series. The Australian tour of Sri Lanka not only helped the Lankans make some money but also improved the nation’s spirit overall through sport.

Maxwell described the atmosphere as being pretty “amazing” when he thought back to the scene from the R Premadasa Stadium, where the crowd could not stop yelling for the Australians.

“That was unusual. That was among the most unique experiences, I was just expressing to the boys. Being able to move around the field while hearing support from a different nation,” Maxwell said in a video posted by cricket.com.au after the game.

Maxwell noted that even though Australian teams are typically viewed as “adversaries,” the atmosphere in Sri Lanka has been very different.
“When Australia visits, we are commonly considered the enemy and there are not many Australian supporters present. But to have the backing and supporters here right now is just remarkable. Everybody is dressed in yellow.”

“They have Australian flags flying everywhere. It is unique, and everyone who has managed to come here deserves praise for it. The residents have had a difficult time. Hopefully, both teams can amuse them so they have a great time throughout the one-day series and come out to support us.”

The two-match Test series between Sri Lanka and Australia will take the center stage following the conclusion of the limited-overs matches.
