SL vs AUS: Kusal Mendis Fit To Play 4th ODI, Danushka Gunathilaka Unlikely To Participate – Reports

Sri Lanka National Cricket Team batter Kusal Mendis is all set to play the 4th ODI of the five-match ODI series against the Australia National Cricket Team. However, Danushka Gunathilaka is unlikely to participate in the match, as per a report in ESPNcricinfo.

Kusal Mendis smashed 87 runs off 85 balls, including 8 fours, in the 3rd ODI against Australia and he also had a 170-run partnership with Pathum Nissanka.

Mendis got retired hurt in the match because of “neuromuscular cramps,” SLC’s chief medical officer Dr Daminda Attanayake told ESPNcricinfo. However, he is fit to participate in the 4th ODI on Tuesday. Also, centurion Pathum Nissanka is fit for the game.

Meanwhile, Danushka Gunathilaka who missed the 3rd ODI, where Sri Lanka won against Australia, with a grade 1 hamstring strain, seems unlikely to be available for the 4th ODI.

Right Now He Is Out – Attanayake on Danushka Gunathilaka

Gunathilaka is likely to miss the 4th ODI against Australia and originally he was set to miss the remainder of the series to ensure his availability for the Lanka Premier League and the Asia Cup. However, still, there is an outside chance he could play.

“The team physio and doctor will continue to assess him to see if he can be fit, but right now he is out,” Attanayake said.

Meanwhile, star leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has a “really good prognosis” and his “symptoms are getting better,” Attanayake said. However, the Sri Lankan team will only play him in the 4th ODI if they feel they really need him.

There is a possibility that Sri Lanka might give an extra game off to Hasaranga as they are leading by 2-1 in the series and young spinners Jeffrey Vandersay and Dunith Wellalage are performing very well.
