The T20 format is known for high-scoring and thrilling games that have entertained fans. In a surprising turn of events, the UAE women’s cricket team has stunned everyone by retiring out all their batters during the Women’s T20 WC Asia Qualifier 2025, which has left the cricket world in disbelief.
The UAE women's team defeated Qatar Women by 163 runs at the Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok on Saturday, May 10. This emphatic victory boosted their Net Run Rate (NRR). With two consecutive wins, the UAE is now at the top of Group B, which also includes Malaysia Women and Qatar Women.
UAE Women Set A New Record In T20 WC Asia Qualifier 2025
The UAE Women’s cricket team set a new record in the Women’s T20 WC Asia Qualifier 2025 by retiring out all their batters after a dominant display. Batting first, they posted an impressive 192 runs in just 16 overs, without losing a wicket.
With rain forecast in Bangkok, where the game was being played, the team chose to declare their innings. Although T20Is do not have a declaration rule, the UAE opted to retire out all their batters, making a bold and innovative decision from the captain and management. Notably, every player raced to the crease and retired out after getting there.
Esha Rohit Oza was the top scorer for the UAE, finishing with an unbeaten 113 runs off 55 balls. Theertha Satish contributed 74 runs off 42 balls. The Qatar Women bowlers failed to take a wicket during the innings.
UAE Women Deliver Outstanding Performance to Defeat Qatar by 163 Runs
UAE then produced an outstanding performance to defeat Qatar Women by 163 runs, bowling them out for just 29 runs. Michelle Botha was the standout bowler for UAE, claiming three wickets, while Katie Thompson took two.
Qatar's captain, Rizpha Bano Emmanuel, top-scored with 20 runs off 29 balls, including two boundaries. The second-highest scorer for Qatar was Angeline Mare, who managed just 5 runs off 6 balls. Notably, seven of Qatar's batters were dismissed for ducks.
With two dominant victories, UAE Women are at the top of the table with two points and a net run rate of 6.998. Meanwhile, Qatar Women find themselves at the bottom after losing their opening match.
