Indian cricketer Sanju Samson recently made interesting comparisons between some of the biggest names in cricket and tennis ahead of the Wimbledon Championships. Samson compared former India captain MS Dhoni to Swiss tennis great Roger Federer and also likened Virat Kohli to Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz.
Samson was last seen in action for Chennai Super Kings during the IPL 2026 season. He is set to return to international cricket in India's upcoming two-match T20I series against Ireland, which begins on June 26. The Men in Blue will be led by Shreyas Iyer for the format, with Tilak Varma serving as vice-captain.
MS Dhoni Is The Roger Federer Of Cricket - Sanju Samson
Speaking on JioStar alongside former Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna, Sanju Samson shared his views on cricket and tennis comparisons. Samson said that MS Dhoni reminds him of Roger Federer because of his calm personality and effortless style of play.
"The Roger Federer of cricket? It has to be MS Dhoni. He is very calm and composed in the way he goes about his business. When he performs, it looks effortless yet very powerful," Sanju Samson said.
Samson also compared Virat Kohli to Carlos Alcaraz because of his aggressive approach and explosive batting. He highlighted Kohli's intensity, power, and attacking mindset, which he believes are similar to the young Spanish tennis star.
"Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, is very explosive, much like how Virat Bhai started. Maybe Virat Kohli can be compared to Alcaraz. He is very aggressive and full of power and explosiveness."
MS Dhoni's Injury-Hit IPL 2026 Season Raises Questions Over His Future
MS Dhoni's absence was a major disappointment for Chennai Super Kings fans during IPL 2026. A calf injury before the season ruled him out initially, and further setbacks, including a thumb issue, prevented him from returning to action. The wicketkeeper batter missed the entire tournament.
It was the first time since the IPL began in 2008 that Dhoni was unavailable for a full season. Although he remained involved with the squad and attended matches from the dugout, his absence left a huge gap in Chennai Super Kings' middle order.
CSK endured another disappointing campaign and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Their heavy defeat to Gujarat Titans ended their hopes of progressing further in the tournament.
The season also increased speculation about Dhoni's future. The 44-year-old has not announced his retirement, but missing an entire IPL season due to injury has raised questions about whether he will play for Chennai Super Kings again.
We Were All Watching the Final - Sanju Samson
During the same video, Sanju Samson spoke about India's triumph at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025. The wicketkeeper-batter recalled watching the final with his family and described the victory as a proud and emotional moment for cricket fans across the country.
"We were all watching the final. My family members and everyone else were glued to the TV. It was a special moment for all of us in the country. We had been waiting for it for a long time. We knew we were capable of winning the World Cup, yet while we were so close, we were very far," Sanju Samson stated.
"I was very happy for all the players in the team. There was so much hard work behind it and so many great stories within the squad itself. It was a proud moment for all of us."
"I think the standards were set very high for us. They won the World Cup and put us on a stage where we felt that we could do the same in India. It was a great moment that both World Cups happened in India and that we won them. So, yes, that victory definitely played a part."
