In one of the most bizarre moments in cricket history, former Australian fast bowler John Hastings delivered an embarrassing over for Australia Champions during the World Championship of Legends 2025 (WCL 2025) match against Pakistan Champions in England.
Australia Champions suffered a heavy ten-wicket loss to Pakistan Champions in this WCL 2025 match at Leicester’s Grace Road, and John Hastings turned out to be their biggest disaster. Earlier, the Australian side was bundled out for just 74 runs in 11.5 overs against Pakistan.

Only three players, including Ben Dunk (26), Callum Ferguson (10), and extras (11), reached double figures as the Pakistani spinner Saeed Ajmal ran through the Aussie line-up, taking 6 wickets for just 16 runs, to help his team bowl out the Kangaroos inside 12 overs.

During Pakistan’s chase, which was already smooth at 55 without loss, Australia Champions captain Brett Lee handed the ball to John Hastings in the eighth over, and the nightmare began. The 39-year-old pacer bowled a bizarre over that included 12 wides and a no-ball.

The eighth overstretched to a total of 18 deliveries, but only five were legal in the WCL 2025 clash. Hastings started the over with five wides in a row that all missed the mark, going wide outside the off stump.
He finally managed to bowl two proper deliveries—one was hit for a single to deep point, and the other was driven straight down the ground for four runs.
But just when it looked like the Australian fast bowler might settle, he overstepped the line, giving away a no-ball.
That delivery also went way down the leg side and could’ve been called a wide on its own. Then the free hit was another wide, again going high and drifting down leg.
Trying to adjust, Hastings changed his angle and bowled around the wicket to left-hander Sharjeel Khan but only managed to give away a leg bye. Switching back to the right-handed Sohaib Maqsood, he bowled another wide, missing the off stump by a large margin.

Then, the former pacer bowled two more legal deliveries. One was a dot ball, but it was also nearly a wide, and the other was nudged for a single to deep square leg.
But his misery didn’t end there as Hastings finished the over with five more wides. The first three were down the leg side to Sharjeel, and the last two flew so far outside off stump they were almost off the pitch.
Pakistan openers Sharjeel Khan (32* off 23) and Sohaib Maqsood (28* off 26) were left shocked, just like Brett Lee and the rest of the Australian team, as Hastings struggled to bowl straight at Grace Road.
Well, the Pakistan Champions chased the target in just 7.5 overs, sealing the win with extreme ease, thanks to the 19 runs conceded in that single disastrous over by Hastings.

However, despite this heavy defeat, the Australian Legends still have a chance to make it to the Championship of Legends 2025 (WCL 2025) Final, as they are set to face the South African Champions in the upcoming WCL 2025 semi-final on July 31 in Birmingham.
