3 Players Delhi Capitals (DC) Can Retain In IPL 2022 Mega Auction. For the second season in a row, Delhi Capitals reached the playoffs in IPL 2021. However, once again, they failed to lift the title despite dominating for the most part of the season. Last year, they went down to Mumbai Indians in the summit clash, while this year they lost both Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 games against CSK and KKR respectively.

Over the last couple of years, Delhi Capitals have exhibited sensational performances and pulled off some unlikely wins. The franchise boasts of a number of world-class talent in the set-up. However, they play together from next season, given the fact that the franchise can only retain three players ahead of the mega auction in IPL 2022.

Rishabh Pant

Delhi Capitals skipper, Rishabh Pant is surely going to be one of the retentions for Delhi Capitals. After Shreyas Iyer sustained an injury to his shoulder, Pant was handed the captaincy duties.

Contrary to everyone’s expectations, he led the franchise admirably. Delhi Capitals topped the table after the league stage, winning 10 matches out of 14. Pant played valuable knocks in the middle-order and, on occasions, took the team out of trouble after an early collapse. In 16 matches, he scored 419 runs at an average of 34.91.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer is likely to be the second choice for the franchise as far as retention is concerned. Iyer is an integral part of the franchise and the management would look him to continue batting at number three in the line-up.

Unfortunately, he missed out in the India leg of IPL 2021 due to injury but made a comeback in the second leg. He helped the team win a few games by playing solid knocks at number three.  In 8 matches, he scored 175 runs at an average of 35.

Shikhar Dhawan: 

For two consecutive seasons, Shikhar Dhawan has done the bulk of scoring for the Delhi Capitals. He formed a solid opening pair with Prithvi Shaw and gave his side a number of valuable starts at the top of the order. He has been the highest run-getter for Delhi Capitals for the last couple of editions.

His form saw a dip during the leg second leg of IPL 2021, otherwise, he could have finished at the top-run getter in the tournament. In 16 matches, he scored 587 runs at an average of 39.13.

While there are a lot of other options for retention, we believe that Shikhar Dhawan might get the nod ahead of everyone else in the squad.
