Rohit Sharma is among the top batsmen to ever play for India. The right-handed batsman has played 45 Tests, 233 ODIs, and 140 T20Is so far. With more than 16000 international runs in his career so far, Rohit Sharma is also one of the top run-scorers in international cricket. He holds a batting average of 46.13 in Tests, 48.58 in ODIs, and 31.57 in T20Is.

Rohit Sharma also leads India across all three formats currently and has a good record as a skipper so far. If we take all three formats combined, Sharma is also among the strongest openers in international cricket currently.

Being a regular opener for India for the last almost 10 years, Sharma has also displaced many emerging batters from taking the opening slot. In this article, we talk about 3 Indian players who couldn’t excel in their international careers due to Rohit Sharma.

Prithvi Shaw is the first player on this list. Prithvi Shaw made his international debut in a Test match against West Indies in October 2018, in which he also slammed a century. He was looking like a promising opener for the national team. However, Rohit Sharma’s rise as a powerful opener for India in the recent time took the opportunities away from Shaw.

Since 2018, Shaw has played just 5 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 1 T20I for India. Since Rohit Sharma was also a vice-captain for India earlier, he was a regular opener for the team. Hence, Shaw could not excel in his international career as he could not grab enough opportunities. However, Prithvi Shaw is just 22 years old currently and has many years left to become a regular opener for the Indian team in the future.
