43-Year-Old Franco Nsubuga breaks Anrich Nortje's 3-day record as he achieves a historic milestone in T20 Cricket

Veteran Ugandan spin bowler Franco Nsubuga made history during the ninth match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 against Papua New Guinea in Guyana on Wednesday (local time). Franco Nsubuga achieved the record for the most economical four-over spell in the history of the men's T20 World Cup.

Uganda secured a three-wicket victory over Papua New Guinea at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 5. Papua New Guinea managed only 77 runs in 19.1 overs after being asked to bat first. The Uganda National Cricket Team successfully chased down the target with 10 balls to spare in their recent match.

Uganda won the toss and opted to bowl, a decision that proved beneficial for their team. Papua New Guinea struggled from the start and lost the wicket of skipper Assad Vala in the first over. The PNG team failed to recover and lost wickets at regular intervals. They were bowled out for just 77 runs in 19.1 overs.

Franco Nsubuga Creates History During 9th Match In T20 World Cup 2024

Franco Nsubuga delivered an impressive bowling performance for Uganda in the first innings. The left-arm spinner secured two wickets for just four runs in his 4-over spell, including two maiden overs. The 43-year-old bowler registered the most economical 4-over spell in the history of the Men's T20 World Cup.

Nsubuga made his international debut for East and Central Africa during the 1997 ICC Trophy. He led his team to victory against Argentina in the final of the World Cricket League in 2007. The veteran cricketer became the second-oldest player to participate in the history of T20 World Cups after Uganda's World Cup debut.

Riazat Ali Shah Plays A Match Winning Knock For Uganda

Uganda faced a challenging start to their chase and lost three wickets for just six runs in 2.1 overs. Alei Nao dismissed openers Roger Mukasa and Simon Ssesazi while Norman Vanua removed Robinson Obuya. Uganda lost their five wickets for just 25 runs in 6.3 overs during the thrilling encounter in the World Cup.

Riazat Ali Shah received a chance after being dropped at the point. Shah added a crucial 35-run partnership with Juma Miyagi for the sixth wicket. Ali Shah scored 33 runs off 56 balls when Uganda needed just three runs to win. Kenneth Waiswa guided the team to a historic victory in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup.

Pretty Special Win For Us - Brian Masaba

Uganda captain Brian Masaba expressed delight with the victory over Papua New Guinea, describing it as "pretty special". Masaba highlighted the team's dedication and hard work over the past three to four years.

"Pretty special win for us. First win at the World Cup, doesn't get more special than this. Super proud of the work they put in. To get a win for their country at a World Cup, it is pretty special. It has been quite a journey. Three to four years of very, very hard work, by the players and the board back home. Getting to the World Cup was special, but this is more special," Brian Masaba said.
