The year 2022 has almost ended and the Indian team has witnessed many achievements and setbacks this year. For instance, some of the achievements were defeating England in the ODI and T20I series during away tours and bagging victories in some bilateral series. Some setbacks were the semi-final exit in ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and the recent ODI loss to Bangladesh.

While there are some players who gave impressive performances for the Indian team this year, there are some others who were not up to the mark. Some players also failed to perform even after getting prominent opportunities. Here we talk about 5 worst performers for Team India in 2022.

Mayank Agarwal is the first player on this list. In 2022, the right-handed batsman played 4 Test matches for team India. In 7 innings, he scored just 130 runs averaging a mere 18.57. He also failed to hit any fifty in the format and was also dropped from the Test squad. Hence, Agarwal’s performance was not up to the mark in 2022.

4. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad is another player on this list. The right-handed batsman played 7 T20I games this year. However, he could only score 100 runs in 6 innings at an average of just 16.66 and a strike rate of 123+. He slammed 1 fifty however, his consistent poor show forced the selectors to drop him from the T20I side.

3. Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan is another player on this list. Avesh Khan played 13 T20Is for India this year. Although he picked 11 wickets in those games, he held a high bowling average of 32.45. The right-arm pacer also held an expensive economy rate of 9.31. Post his poor show with the ball, Khan was also dropped from the T20I team.

Chetshwar Pujara is another player on this list. Pujara is a Test specialist batsman. He played 3 Test matches this year but scored only 187 runs in 6 innings at an average of 31.16. Although Pujara hit 2 half-centuries, he failed to come up with a century.

Since he is a Test specialist batsman, Pujara is expected to come up with brilliant shows in the longest format. However, he largely failed with his batting average in the ’30s this year.

1. KL Rahul

KL Rahul is another player on this list. Although KL Rahul did smash some good knocks this year, the right-handed batsman has overall failed to come up with a good performance. Across all three formats, KL Rahul played 26 matches in 2022 and held an average of just 28.57.

In ODIs, he averaged just 32.71 in 8 Tests with 2 half-centuries. In Tests, he could only score 80 runs in 2 games. In T20Is, he averaged 28.93 in 2022, smashing 434 runs in 16 games. Hence, he could not cross the 35-plus average in any single format this year and this is way behind his potential.
