The game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens on Saturday (April 26) had to be halted due to strong wind and rain.

Chasing 202 runs, KKR could face only one over when their openers and the PBKS players were asked to leave the field by the umpires. Such was the condition in Kolkata that former Australian batsman Matthew Hayden termed it 'absolute chaos'.

The legendary batsman is in Kolkata as a commentator for the broadcaster JioHotstar. As the game was halted due to rain and wind, Matthew Hayden pointed behind him on the live broadcast and called the situation 'absolute chaos'.

The groundsmen were quick to take action as they covered the entire ground with white covers. However, the wind was so strong that some covers were blown off, leaving the field exposed to rain.

Matthew Hayden on conditions in Kolkata:

Matthew Hayden stated that the ground staff were actually sitting on the covers to prevent them from blowing off. The Australian great also came up with an interesting phrase to describe the incident, calling the situation ' watching featherweights in a heavyweight contest'.

"There was one portion of the covers, which had about six people standing on it, it got blown off and all those guys were launched up into the air. And then the cover disappeared into the crowd. It’s been carnage here," Matthew Hayden said on JioHotstar.

"It started with a dust storm, which was exciting enough as it was and then we had sideways rain that completely caught the ground staff unawares. Currently you can see behind me, they’re all sitting on the covers because they don’t have the weights that actually weigh down the covers.

"There’s a wind that’s whistling about at 60-70 kilometres an hour and it been a real spectacle besides the batting we have seen from the Punjab Kings batting," he added.

Meanwhile, PBKS have posted 201/4 in 20 overs after their captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya starred with the bat for PBKS, scoring 83 and 69 respectively. In reply, KKR were on 7/0 when rain and wind halted the game.
