A club cricketer from Australia made a historic record after picking 6 wickets in 6 balls to win the match for his team. Mudgeeraba captain Gareth Morgan picked 6 wickets off 6 balls in the match against Surfers Paradise in Gold Coast’s Premier League Division 3 tournament.

In professional cricket, there have been records of five wickets off five balls. The record has been achieved by New Zealand’s Neil Wagner (2011), Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Hossain (2013), and India’s Abhimanyu Mithun (2019). However, it is the first time that a player has picked 6 wickets in 6 balls in professional cricket.

During the match between Mudgeeraba and Surfers Paradise, the latter needed 5 runs off the final over to win the match. Paradise had 6 wickets in their kitty. Mudgeeraba captain Gareth Morgan chose to bowl the final over.

To everyone’s surprise, Gareth Morgan picked the remaining six wickets to lead his team to an unbelievable victory. Morgan dismissed five batsmen for golden ducks. The first four wickets were all caught, while the last two wickets were bowled.

Speaking to broadcaster ABC after the match, Gareth Morgan said that it was just crazy. He also revealed that the umpire told him he needed a hat-trick to win the match.

“It is funny, the umpire said to me at the start of the over that I needed to take a hat-trick or something to win the game. When it happened he just sort of looked at me. I remember thinking after I got the hat-trick — I don’t want to lose this game now. Then it just went crazy. When I saw the stumps go back on the last ball I couldn’t believe it, I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said.

Morgan not only achieved a historic record in professional cricket but also led his team to a surprising win. He won the Player of the Match award for his magnificent bowling performance.
