Former England skipper Michael Vaughan accused India of cheating during the ongoing fourth Test match between the two teams in Ranchi. Michael Vaughan criticized the Hawkeye technology after Joe Root’s dismissal in England’s second innings on Day 3.

The home team started the third day at a total of 219/7, with Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav at the crease. James Anderson broke the partnership by dismissing Kuldeep Yadav in the first session. Dhruv Jurel guided the team to cross the 300-run mark in the first innings.

Jurel was dismissed after scoring 90 runs off 149 deliveries, including six boundaries and four sixes. Young spinner Shoaib Bashir picked up his maiden five-wicket haul, taking five wickets for 119 runs. The visiting team took a significant 46-run lead after India’s first innings.

Ravichandran Ashwin Picks Three Wickets In His First Spell

Ravichandran Ashwin ran through England’s top order by taking two wickets with the new ball. The off-spinner dismissed Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope on consecutive deliveries in the fifth over. Zak Crawley and Joe Root tried to build the innings with a partnership.

In the 17th over of England’s innings, Joe Root, who had scored a century in the first innings, was struck on the pads by Ashwin. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma reviewed the LBW decision against Joe Root after it was given not out by umpire Kumar Dharmasena.

The replay showed that the delivery pitched on the leg-stump line and was going to hit the stumps. The DRS revealed three reds and the on-field call had to be reversed, resulting in Joe Root’s dismissal. Root had to return to the pavilion after scoring 11 runs.

More Than Half The Ball Was Outside Leg Stump – Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan expressed his dissatisfaction with Joe Root’s dismissal in a now-deleted post. Vaughan stated that the ball had pitched outside the leg stump. He added that Root should not have been given out and criticized the technology as “a shocker.”

“That looked a shocker for the technology .. more than half the ball was outside leg stump yet it came up Red !!!!!! Hawkeye is having a average series .. And it’s done for England’s best player Root,” Vaughan wrote on X (formely known as Twitter).

Why We Haven’t Seen Many Replays – Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan, following the deletion of his earlier tweet, questioned the limited replay coverage of Root’s dismissal. Vaughan suggested that the third umpire should have reviewed more replays before making a decision on Root’s dismissal.

“Interested to know why we haven’t seen many replays of the Root dismissal â€æ Surely it’s the main moment of the innings so far so we should be seeing it a lot more … Asking for a friend …”

Following Root’s dismissal, the visiting team suffered a collapse in the second innings. The Ben Stokes-led team was bundled out for just 145 runs, setting a target of 192 runs for India in the final innings. The hosts scored 40 runs without losing any wickets at the stumps.
