Former India opener Aakash Chopra noted that while Kohli and Gill batted famously last night at the Greenfield International Stadium, Rohit Sharma could be disappointed in himself. He got a nice start, the ball was coming nicely to his bat, and all of a sudden, he played a wrong shot.
Aakash Chopra raises question on Rohit Sharma's shot selection
Speaking on his official YouTube channel to explain the India vs West Indies 1st ODI match, Aakash Chopra said that Rohit started the innings well for India, and when everything was looking good for him to get another big innings, he went for an outrageous shot and lost his wicket. The opener departed scoring 32 runs off 35 balls with a couple of 4s and three 6s.
"He was batting quite well, actually, right through to his wicket in the end. And this is something that must be bothering him as well, that he had got a start, the ball was coming nicely onto the bat, and he was looking good. So then, why play that one shot?" Chopra raised the question.
Aakash Chopra advises Rohit Sharma to correct his mistakes
The former cricketer further mentioned that this was the area on which Rohit Sharma needed to work ahead of the second ODI match of the series in Guwahati. But overall, apart from the one bad shot which caused the wicket, Rohit Sharma batted well, according to Aakash Chopra.
“That is something he would want to correct. He would want to correct it when they head to Guwahati. But so far, so good. I mean, he batted well too. It could be that when they go to Guwahati, it will be all about Rohit Sharma", the former cricketer continued.
Will Shubman Gill be able to score 15,000 ODI runs like Virat Kohli?
While crafting a match-winning century, Virat Kohli became the fastest Indian batter to complete 15,000 ODI runs. Shubman Gill, who also smashed a ton, has the potential to claim fifteen thousand runs in the format in the future, as Chopra mentioned in his video. But the former cricketer-turned-cricket expert had some doubts, as nowadays the number of ODI matches has dropped significantly, which could bar Gill from touching the milestone.
"If he continues to play like this, then one thought definitely comes to my mind. This is a question that is often asked: if he plays the same amount of cricket, if he also plays 300 matches, will he also be able to score 15,000 runs? Within just 300 matches? There are so many ups and downs. Sometimes you get injured. Sometimes you lose your form. But from what we have seen so far, Shubman Gill can do it," Chopra continued.
