The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has taken a sensational twist as speculation swirls around a senior Indian cricketer allegedly offering to step in as the team’s interim captain. And now former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned the identity of that "Mr. Fix-it”.

The well-known commentator said that a Mr. Fix-it reportedly expressed a willingness to take charge amidst India's struggles in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, where the tourists are trailing by 1-2 and the fifth and final Test is scheduled in Sydney from January 3.

Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 takes a twist with India's captaincy rumors

The Indian cricket team has lost the second and fourth Tests as Australia took a 2-1 lead in the ongoing five-match Test series, with now the tourists hoping to win the New Year’s Test to level the series and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

However, the Indian team’s captaincy woes have taken center stage with the questions looming over Rohit Sharma's form and his ability to lead the side, fueling the speculation about his place in the Test team.

Reacting to the rumors, Aakash Chopra suggested that this senior figure, who reportedly believes he can guide the team through its transitional phase, should be looking for the role after the end of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

I won't tell now, but my guess might be right: Aakash Chopra on 'Mr. Fix-it

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel: “Who is this 'Mr. Fix-it? Something like this is also happening: a senior player is saying he can become the captain as the team situation is not good; they are undergoing a transition, and he is going to play for the next few years. This thing also came out in public. Then you again start asking the questions: What is happening?”

Aakash Chopra further noted, “Please let the series get over. Think whatever you want after the series. I am very, very disappointed. Over a period of time, we will get to know who this 'Mr. Fix-it is. Everyone has started making their guesses. I also have a guess, which I won't tell now, but my guess might be right. The Indian team might go in that direction.”

Meanwhile, some reports suggested that Gautam Gambhir advocated for Cheteshwar Pujara’s inclusion in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 squad. Known for his resilience and unmatched ability to anchor innings, Pujara is definitely missed by the team in the ongoing Test series.

Aakash Chopra feels Cheteshwar Pujara should have been picked for BGT 2024-25

However, disagreements between key decision-makers have allegedly led to Pujara’s omission. With selectors and the captain reportedly at odds with Gambhir's vision, Chopra raised concerns over the lack of unity between the coach and selectors.

He signed off by saying, “Another thing was that Gautam Gambhir wanted to select Cheteshwar Pujara. He was thinking about a player like him. There, if the coach wanted that and the selectors were refusing and the captain didn't wish that, ideally, everybody should work in one direction.”
