Former India opener Aakash Chopra has lashed out at Inzamam-ul-Haq over his ball-tampering allegations on Team India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Recently, during India's Super 8 match against Australia, Inzamam alleged that Arshdeep Singh's ball is reverse-swinging and that's not possible in just the 15th over of the innings.

The former Pakistan captain wanted the umpires to interfere in this matter and check whether the Indian team was tampering with the ball or not. He said all these things while sitting on a local news channel.

Aakash Chopra slams Inzamam-ul-Haq

While speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra defended the Indian team by saying that the ball was reverse-swinging for everyone and not just for Indian bowlers.

"Inzamam-ul-Haq sir actually said that the ball was reverse swinging and that it should be checked. The ball was reverse swinging in day games. It was happening for everyone, not only for us, because the matches were being played on extremely dry surfaces," Chopra said.

"However, he asked how Arshdeep was swinging the ball more, it shouldn't happen and the umpire should check it. Rohit Sharma replied that people should open their minds and he felt bad about that as well. He said that they shouldn't be taught as they had started reverse swing. Tell the truth that people used to prepare the ball," Chopra added.

After the ball-tampering allegations, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was asked to speak about the allegations made by Inzamam. Rohit gave a fiery reply to the Pakistani legend by advising him to open his mind before speaking. Inzamam retorted back by saying that they were the ones who invented reverse swing and should not be taught how to do it.

'Did you dig your own grave?' - Aakash Chopra to Inzamam-ul-Haq

Chopra then asked Inzamam if his comments had gone back to hurt him. He mentioned the examples of former Pakistani bowlers in his video and wondered if they also used to do the same as Inzamam mentioned.

"Just think, did you dig your own grave? I feel you have done that because you said the umpires should be vigilant because something was being done to the ball, and it was being prepared, that it was being scratched on one side, or being shined using illegitimate means," Chopra exclaimed.

"That's what you are trying to say because why else would the umpires need to keep their eyes on the ball. So you are admitting that when your good bowlers used to do it, the ball was being prepared, and to do that you would either be scratching the ball, applying something, or doing something else that escaped the umpire's eyes," the cricketer-turned-commentator added.

Despite all these allegations, India went on to claim the T20 World Cup 2024 title for the second time in history. In the final, India defeated South Africa by 7 runs to lift the trophy. The Men in Blue have claimed this title after a gap of 17 years.

It also ended India's long wait for an ICC trophy. India last won an ICC trophy in 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy.
