Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra lashed out at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for mismanagement of Shivam Dube. Chopra also highlighted his omission from the squad for the ongoing T20I series against South Africa.

Aakash Chopra questioned BCCI, stating it’s surprising how the governing body manages some players. Chopra pointed out the thought process over Shivam Dube’s selection, saying that he was picked in the T20I series against Australia, and without even playing a single game, he was dropped from the squad.

Aakash Chopra also wondered about what conversation selectors might have had with Shivam Dube after dropping him. Taking to his X account, he stated:

“Sometimes you wonder about selections and certain players. India picked Shivam Dubey for a 5-match T20i series vs Australia. Didn’t play him in a single match. Now, he doesn’t make it to the 17-member squad vs SA. How does one communicate this to a player?”

Shivam Dube made a comeback into the Indian team after a sensational IPL 2023 for Chennai Super Kings. He mustered 418 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 158.33 and an average of 38. His impressive performances in the league saw him getting the India call-up for the Asian Games as well as the three-match T20I Ireland series.

Shivam Dube had decent outings in the Ireland series as well as the Asian Games. He was included in the team for the five-match T20I series against Australia but couldn’t make the cut into the XI. It remains to be seen what will be his future in the Indian team with the World Cup around the corner.

Aakash Chopra predicts the result for the South Africa series

Aakash Chopra recently shared his prediction for the India tour to South Africa 2023-24. He said that the Proteas would end up winning the multi-format series by a margin of 5-3. He had stated:

“I view South Africa as slightly ahead in the entire series. I might be entirely mistaken, and I hope I am, but I foresee a few more matches favouring South Africa. It could end up 5-3 in their favour.”

India will be playing three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests on their tour to South Africa.
