Former India opener Aakash Chopra named his probable Indian team squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka and has named Shikhar Dhawan the captain of his Team India. India is slated to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is against the Islanders in the month of July.
Most of the first-choice Team India players will be in England for the five-match Test series against England, the BCCI has confirmed that a completely separate Indian team will be sent to Sri Lanka for the white ball series. This will present youngsters an opportunity to come good and stake a claim for the T20 World Cup which is to be hosted by India later this year.
Aakash Chopra Picks 17-Man India Squad, Shikhar Dhawan Named Captain
Aakash Chopra is known for his analysis and predictions and this time as well, he has named a 17-man Team India squad for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in July. Interestingly, Chopra has named Shikhar Dhawan the captain of the team and has picked Prithvi Shaw as his opening partner.
“Shikhar Dhawan the captain because we have seen in the last two years that he is upgrading his software and batting with great responsibility. Along with him, I am picking Prithvi Shaw. The form we have seen from him, I feel he should be the front-runner in this race,” said Aakash Chopra in his latest YouTube video.
He then picked Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Ishan Kishan in the middle order, followed by the Pandya brothers- Krunal and Hardik and even named Hardik Pandya the vice-captain of the team.
“After that Shreyas Iyer if he is available. There is a talk of him playing county cricket but it would be better if you keep him for the six encounters here. Then Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, although Mumbai Indians dropped him halfway through. Hardik Pandya will be my vice-captain. And then Krunal Pandya. He played the last ODI series against England and performed well also,” Aakash Chopra said.
As for the pace attack, the former India and Delhi opener chose Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Navdeep Saini. For the spin department, Chopra went with two leg-spinners in Yuzvendra Chahal and Rahul Chahar, while also chose Varun Chakravarthy.
He further named Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda as the reserve batsmen for the tour.
